McGuinty government investing in children and youth in North Bay

Children's Treatment Centre, Children's Mental Health and Child Care: Priorities for a Prosperous Ontario NORTH BAY, ON, July 26 - The Ontario government is giving a big boost to the kids of North Bay with new investments in services that provide treatment, care and education for the children and youth in this community, Minister of Children and Youth Services, Dr. Marie Bountrogianni announced today. "Our government believes that a child's healthy development is key to his or her future success," said Bountrogianni. "The investments we're making today will produce results we all want: healthier children who succeed in school and grow up to be productive adults." Bountrogianni and Nipissing MPP Monique Smith announced $7.4 million in capital funding to build a new facility to house the Northern Shores Children's Treatment Centre. Northern Shores will provide treatment and service to children with physical and developmental disabilities. Other highlights of today's announcement include: - $425,800 for child care; - $151,458 for children's mental health programs; - $212,314 for youth justice services; and - $5,699 for community service agencies serving children and youth. "We're pleased to see that the government recognizes the need to support children and youth in this community and their families," said Kelli Couroux, Director of the West Ferris Day Nursery. "This is good news for our children and families and good news for North Bay." These investments are part of the government's commitment to improve the health of Ontarians and help children succeed in school. Provincially, the government is investing $58 million in child care, $25 million in children's mental health and millions more in other programs for children, including providing free immunizations and expanded school nutrition programs. "Children with disabilities, mental health issues and child care are all serious concerns for parents in North Bay," said Nipissing MPP Smith. "I'm proud to see our government is investing in the programs and services that are helping families right here every day. By investing in children, we're investing in Ontario."
