The conference highlighted the important role that Ontario will play in the two key initiatives related to the development of the dual-language nature of Canada: - The new federal - provincial - territorial agreements to promote French in minority settings will be paired with a structure for providing relevant and constructive information on accountability that corresponds to the reality of each province and territory - The parties responsible for culture in the provinces and territories will be made aware of the challenges of Francophone cultural development and of its contribution to the dynamism of Francophone and Acadian communities that are in minority settings. "As the Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs and the Minister of Culture, I am doubly satisfied with the initiatives that we will be managing on behalf of Francophones and for the development of the culture which forms the basis of our communities," Minister Meilleur said. On October 14 and 15, ministers and officials responsible for Francophone Affairs from across Canada met in Moncton to reaffirm their leadership in French language services and their support for Canada's Francophone and Acadian communities.
