Inquest in the death of Thomas Street announced

TORONTO, July 6 - Dr. James Edwards, Regional Supervising Coroner for Toronto East, today announced that an inquest will be held in the death of Thomas Street. Mr. Street, 74, died on October 5, 2003, as a result of injuries sustained in a fall at a construction site. Under the Coroners Act, an inquest is mandatory when a worker dies as a result of an accident occurring at a construction project. The inquest jury is expected to hear evidence regarding policies and procedures for individuals working at significant heights. The inquest will review the events surrounding the death and may result in recommendations aimed at preventing deaths in similar circumstances. The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on September 26, 2005, at the Toronto Coroners Courts, 15 Grosvenor Street. Dr. David Evans will preside as inquest coroner and Ms. Satinder Besrai will act as counsel to the coroner.
