Minister Bentley says it's time for students to get back to class
TORONTO, March 23 /CNW/ - Training, Colleges and Universities Minister Chris Bentley has asked representatives of the College Compensation and Appointments Council and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union to meet with Kevin Whitaker, chair of the College Relations Commission, to determine what form of dispute resolution will be used to resolve the labour dispute between the two parties. In the interim, Minister Bentley has called for an immediate end to the strike.
"It is disappointing that the parties were unable to reach a collective agreement. However, both parties have indicated that this dispute can be resolved through arbitration. The parties can't agree on the form this arbitration should take. That is why I have asked the parties to sit down with Mr. Whitaker who can assist the parties in resolving this issue," said Bentley.
"In the mean time, the picket lines should come down and faculty should return to work so that students can get back to their studies," said Bentley. "Now that the parties have both agreed that arbitration can resolve this labour dispute there is no reason to prolong the strike any longer. It is time for students to get back to class."
