Minister David Caplan announces new Chair of Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation

Ministry of Infrastructure

QUEEN'S PARK, ON, June 29 - The McGuinty government continues its commitment to a sustainable and responsible provincial gaming industry by appointing Mr. Michael Gough B.A., LL.B, LL.M. as Chair of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), Public Infrastructure Renewal Minister David Caplan announced today. The announcement follows the decision of current Chair Mr. Timothy Reid to step down after serving since February 2004. Mr. Gough's appointment is effective June 7, 2006. "Mr. Reid's leadership has been of tremendous value in ensuring the OLG has been fulfilling its mandate for a responsible and sustainable industry as our government directed in January of last year," said Caplan. "During his tenure, the OLG announced its Responsible Gaming Code of Conduct, launched AMBER ALERT child safety bulletins to lottery terminals, and set the direction for long-term stability and maximizing of revenues without further expanding the number of gaming sites. While I thank Mr. Reid for his contributions, I also welcome Mr. Gough whose significant legal and business experience will further lead OLG to continue to deliver revenue provincially and economic and social benefits locally." Michael Gough was a partner for over twenty years in the law firm of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP where he specialized in public law and regulatory affairs. He has an extensive background in government relations and regulatory and legislative matters. He has worked for several provincial ministries including the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations, Ministry of Treasury, Economics and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Management Board of Cabinet. Mr. Gough is a director, corporate secretary and member of the Executive Committee of the Energy Council of Canada, as well as director, chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee, and member of the Executive Committee of Trent University. Revenue from OLG gaming activities supports healthcare, municipalities and charitable organizations.
