Attorney General Announces Oshawa Judicial Appointment

TORONTO, Jan. 25 - Attorney General Michael Bryant today announced the appointment of Katrina Lea Mulligan as a provincial judge to the Ontario Court of Justice. "Madam Justice Mulligan has a broad range of experience in both the legal field and in her community work," said Bryant. "This appointment reflects the high standards of the Ontario Court of Justice and I'm certain Madam Justice Mulligan will make a significant contribution to the bench." Madam Justice Mulligan was called to the Bar in 1992 and since then has been a sole practitioner in criminal law, with a wide range of experience in the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice. Over the years she has represented clients with mental disabilities in court and before the Ontario Review Board and has also been a duty counsel for Legal Aid Ontario in Toronto. Madam Justice Mulligan has served as a director and vice-president of the Criminal Lawyers' Association, been a guest judge at the Seneca College Mock Trials, a guest lecturer for the Ontario Justice Education Network Courtrooms and Classrooms Program and a legal coach for the Ontario Bar Association Provincial Secondary School Moot Tournament. She has also been a committee member of the Scarborough and Metro North Domestic Violence Court Advisory Committees, and the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation and a director of the Highland Creek Community Association. Chief Justice Brian W. Lennox has assigned Madam Justice Mulligan to preside in Oshawa effective January 31, 2007. Bryant has appointed 64 judges since the McGuinty government was sworn in on October 23, 2003.
