McGuinty Government Attracts 1,000 Jobs To Mississauga

New Customer Contact Centre To Help Strengthen Peel Region's Economy MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 6 - Aditya Birla Minacs, an international business process outsourcing (BPO) company today opened a new customer contact centre in Mississauga with plans to bring up to 1,000 jobs to Peel Region, said Minister of Small Business and Entrepreneurship and Mississauga Centre MPP Harinder Takhar. "This is the result of our government's aggressive efforts to bring good jobs and more opportunities to workers and families across Ontario," said Takhar. "This investment is a real boost to Mississauga's economy and demonstrates Ontario is a highly competitive location for serving contact centre customers in North America." The idea for an Aditya Birla Minacs centre for Mississauga developed during Ontario's business mission to India earlier this year. Premier Dalton McGuinty, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Sandra Pupatello and Minister Takhar met with senior representatives of Aditya Birla, which acquired Minacs Worldwide Inc. last year. "We're proud that Aditya Birla Minacs chose to expand in Ontario," Pupatello said. "The company recognized the many competitive advantages Ontario offers, including its highly-skilled workforce, lower corporate tax rates, health care, and telecommunications costs." "This announcement reflects the remarkable opportunities for Ontarians in developing business partnerships with Indian companies that are global in scale," McGuinty said. "We are building on Ontario's economic strengths and securing jobs for Ontarians." Fariba Rawhani, President, North America and Europe for Aditya Birla Minacs, views Mississauga as an important part of the company's overall growth strategy and a future leading global business process outsourcing player. "Mississauga has the talented and educated workforce we were looking for," said Rawhani. "Infrastructure and other business considerations make Mississauga, and Ontario as a whole, a logical business choice." The Mississauga contact centre opened with 300 employees, with the goal of creating another 700 jobs by June 2008. The company operates a total of seven centres in Ontario. Others locations include Hamilton, Niagara Falls, Chatham, Peterborough, Pickering and Oshawa. Aditya Birla Minacs provides customized business process outsourcing solutions. It uses the latest technology and quality processes to help its clients improve quality and efficiency, while lowering costs.
