McGuinty Government Consults With Business Community In Toronto

Discussions With Small And Medium-Sized Businesses Will Help Set Priorities TORONTO, Dec. 13 - The McGuinty government held a regional consultation with small and medium-sized businesses from across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in Toronto today, said Minister of Small Business and Entrepreneurship Harinder Takhar. "The GTA offers tremendous opportunities for entrepreneurs and small business owners," said Takhar. "These discussions are an opportunity to hear first-hand about the challenges facing the business community and also to share ideas and solutions for the future." Takhar led the discussions, which will help the ministry set priorities. Laura Albanese, MPP for York South-Weston also participated in the consultation. "Small business plays an important role in maintaining strong communities," said Albanese. "Through working together we can ensure our small businesses remain competitive and continue to generate jobs and prosperity." "Toronto benefits from having a vibrant and diverse economy," said George Smitherman, MPP for Toronto-Centre. "Today's consultation will bring forward solutions we can implement to ensure that Toronto's small business community remains strong." Today's consultation is part of a five-stop tour across the province. Takhar held consultations in Mississauga (November 14) and Ottawa (November 19) and will also be meeting with business owners and operators in Sudbury. Parliamentary Assistant Sophia Aggelonitis hosted the regional consultation held today in Chatham. "The economic regions of Ontario face diverse challenges and offer unique advantages," said Takhar. "Today's discussion is another example of the McGuinty government and local business communities working together to ensure that Ontario remains a great place to conduct business."
