  • Ontario Man Fined $7,000 for Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes

    Location: City of Brantford

    Description of Offence: Possession of unmarked cigarettes

    Date of Offence: February 15, 2017

    Date of Conviction: November 27, 2017, at the Brantford Provincial Offences Court

    Penalty Imposed: A fine of $7,000 was imposed on Mr. Labelle. He was given 12 months to pay. The court also imposed a 25-per-cent victim fine surcharge as required under the Provincial Offences Act.

  • Ontario Man Sentenced to Jail for Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes

    Convicted: Quyet Van Nguyen

    Location:   City of Hamilton

    Description of Offence: Possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale

    Date of Offence: December 3, 2016

    Date of Conviction: December 5, 2017, at the Hamilton Provincial Offences Court.

    Penalty Imposed: Mr. Nguyen was sentenced to 15 days in jail. He was also given 12 months' probation.

    Description of Offences: Possession of unmarked cigarettes and untaxed cigars for the purpose of sale.

    Date of Offence: March 3, 2017

    Date of Conviction: November 28, 2017, at the Brantford Provincial Offences Court

    Penalty Imposed: Mr. Yu was given 30 days in jail and fined $104,900.93. He was given 30 days to pay the fines. The court also imposed a 25-per-cent victim fine surcharge as required under the Provincial Offences Act.

    Penalty Imposed: A fine of $5,142.50 was imposed on Mr. You. He was given 12 months to pay. The court also imposed a 25-per-cent victim fine surcharge as required under the Provincial Offences Act.
