Statement From Minister Sandals Regarding Progress In Talks With ETFO

Ministry of Education

Liz Sandals, Minister of Education, issued the following statement about ongoing talks with the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO):

"As you know, our government has been having positive, collaborative discussions with our education partners over the past number of weeks. Those discussions are helping rebuild important relationships inside and outside of our schools that will allow us to continue to build one of the best education systems in the world.

From the beginning of our discussions with our partners, we have been clear that anything we agree to must reflect our current fiscal situation and fit within the ministry's funding envelope. Recognizing this reality, our discussions have been focused on ensuring fairness and consistency in the application of the current agreement.

I am pleased with the progress we have made in our discussions with ETFO. As ETFO announced earlier today, we have come to an understanding on a number of items that can be resolved without new money and that fit within the ministry's funding envelope.

While we continue to work towards a final agreement, I am confident that with the trust and understanding we have built over the past number of weeks, we will be able to come to a resolution that will see stability in our schools for the duration of this contract."
