Statement From Minister Sandals Regarding Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board

Ministry of Education

Liz Sandals, Minister of Education, issued the following statement about the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board and supervisor Norbert Hartmann's report on ensuring its financial sustainability:

"Last fall, our government appointed Norbert Hartmann to the role of supervisor of the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board. Mr. Hartmann was tasked with restoring public confidence in the school board and ensuring the board's fiscal sustainability. I would like to thank Mr. Hartmann for his hard work and considerable insight.

As part of the supervisor's commitment to the school community, he has released a report on the school board's financial challenges. Currently, the school board has both capital and operating deficits. In his report, Mr. Hartmann speaks to the causes of these deficits with great clarity and offers practical solutions to these challenges.

Potential options will be taken to the public for consultation. Through these discussions, the community of the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board will have an opportunity to speak to its needs and help find local solutions.

We look forward to hearing from the community about the best way forward for the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board."
