Statement by Minister Sandals on ETFO Vote

Ministry of Education

Today, Liz Sandals, Minister of Education, issued the following statement:

"I am pleased that 91 per cent of members of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) have voted in favour of the agreement reached with our government.

Together, we have come a long way toward rebuilding our relationship in a collaborative approach that reaffirms our shared commitment to delivering excellence for Ontario's elementary school students.

The agreement brings added stability to the province's classrooms while ensuring fairness and consistency across the education sector for all elementary teachers and support staff in Ontario.

Our government continues to operate within its existing funding envelope for education as a result of innovative thinking, collaborative problem-solving and the renewal of our proud partnership with Ontario's public elementary school teachers, support staff and school boards.

I want to thank everyone who worked with us to reach this agreement and all those federation members who voted. All parties showed a willingness to seek common ground to support our shared goal - ensuring the highest level of student success. The result is an agreement that is fair for taxpayers, federation members and school boards, and most of all, Ontario's students."
