Minister's Statement on Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board Supervision

Ministry of Education

Today, Liz Sandals, Minister of Education, issued the following statement about the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board:

"I would like to thank Janine Griffore for her hard work and dedication as supervisor of the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board. Ms. Griffore took on this important role in July 2013, when the board transitioned to a co-management model.

Ms. Griffore and her predecessor Norbert Hartmann helped restore the board's financial sustainability. Now that the board has passed audited financial statements, has fully addressed its operating deficit, and has a plan in place to address its capital deficit, I'm confident it is in a position to make responsible decisions on behalf of its students. Therefore, the ministry has lifted its supervision of the board.

Our top priority has always been to restore public confidence in the board and put it on sound financial footing. I would like to thank everyone involved in this process for their help in getting the board back on track.

Our government has made significant investments in publicly funded education so that every student benefits from a world-class education system. We remain committed to ensuring sound financial governance at all school boards and providing Ontario's students with the best possible education."
