Statement From Minister Sandals Regarding Tentative Agreement With The Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association
Liz Sandals, Minister of Education, issued the following statement about a tentative agreement reached between the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association (OECTA), the Ontario Catholic School Trustees' Association (OCSTA) and the Government of Ontario:
"I am pleased to announce that a tentative agreement between the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association (OECTA), the Ontario Catholic School Trustees' Association (OCSTA) and the Government of Ontario has been successfully negotiated. We have now reached central tentative agreements with Ontario's Catholic teachers and English Public high school teachers and continue to negotiate with the remaining teachers' and education workers' unions in an effort to achieve central agreements.
The tentative agreement is the result of hard work and the willingness of all parties to resolve difficult issues prior to the start of the school year. Although I cannot comment on the specific terms of the tentative agreement as it remains subject to ratification, I am pleased that it is consistent with the government's net-zero bargaining framework, meaning any salary increases are offset through the collective agreement.
We remain committed to bargaining throughout the remaining weeks of the summer in order to reach agreements at all tables."
