Nominations Open for Premier's Awards for Accepting Schools
Recognizing Outstanding Teams in Ontario’s Schools
Nominations are now open for the 2015-16 Premier's Awards for Accepting Schools.
These awards recognize and celebrate the innovative work that Ontario's Safe and Accepting Schools Teams do in promoting a positive school environment, and supporting student achievement and well-being.
Anyone in a school community can nominate a Safe and Accepting Schools Team using the new nomination form, which is easier to complete this year. The deadline for nominations is February 19, 2016.
Promoting student well-being is one of the goals of Ontario's education system. This goal emphasizes the need to focus on both academic success and the whole child -- their cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development. This includes ongoing work by school communities across Ontario who put in place prevention and intervention strategies to help create safe, inclusive and accepting schools.
- Every school in Ontario is required to have a Safe and Accepting Schools Team.
- Between 2004-05 and 2014-15, Ontario has invested more than $490 million in safe and accepting schools, and equity and inclusive education. Total projected funding for 2015-16 is $65 million.
“Safe and accepting schools teams make our schools a better place by promoting safe, inclusive and accepting learning environments. I encourage everyone to nominate a school team that deserves recognition for their exceptional and innovative efforts to promote healthy and respectful relationships.”
“Every child deserves to attend a school that is welcoming and safe. Teams in schools across Ontario are doing vital work to build students’ self-esteem, prevent bullying and create a supportive environment where kids can focus on learning. Nominating a team for the Premier’s Awards for Accepting Schools is a wonderful way to say thank you to a team that has made a difference in your life.”
