Lantin Trucking Limited fined $40,000 for violating the Environmental Protection Act
WINDSOR -- Lantin Trucking Limited has been fined $40,000, plus a victim fine surcharge, after pleading guilty to violations under the Environmental Protection Act.
The Court heard that Lantin Trucking Limited was a trucking company located in the County of Essex. Inspection by the ministry revealed that construction and demolition waste was being deposited, burned and segregated by the company. A Certificate of Approval for the site had not been issued to Lantin Trucking Limited for the disposal or management of the waste.
Lantin Trucking Limited was charged following an investigation by the Ministry of the Environment's Investigations and Enforcement Branch.
Lantin Trucking Limited pleaded guilty on May 27, 2008 to one count of operating a waste disposal site without a Certificate of Approval, contrary to section 27(1)(b) of the Environmental Protection Act, and one count of depositing waste upon land that was not an approved waste disposal site, contrary to section 40 of the Environmental Protection Act. Lantin Trucking Limited was fined $40,000, plus a victim fine surcharge, and was given 60 days to pay.
