Hawkesbury Property Owner Fined $7,000 for Safe Drinking Water Violations

L'Orignal - A property owner was fined $7,000 for failing to operate a drinking water system in accordance with the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Sylvain Brunette owns property located in Hawkesbury. The drinking water system at this property is classified as a non-municipal year-round residential system.

The ministry conducted an inspection of the drinking water system and identified numerous violations. As the owner of the property and the drinking water system, Mr. Brunette was given time to address the issues. The ministry made numerous attempts to assist the owner regarding how to bring the drinking water system into compliance.

A search of ministry records confirmed that Mr. Brunette still had not obtained his operator's certificate and that an engineering evaluation report still had not been submitted for the drinking water system.

Mr. Brunette was fined a total of $7,000 plus victim fine surcharges totaling $1,750 and was given 12 months to pay the fine.
