Town Fined $10,000 For Non-compliance

North Bay - The Corporation of the Town of Mattawa was fined $10,000 for failing to comply with a ministry approval to notify the ministry of exceedances and to submit an annual performance report, contrary to the Ontario Water Resources Act.

The town operates a waste water treatment facility which consists of two aerated lagoons designed to treat sewage. This facility operates under the authority of a ministry approval.

Ministry staff conducted an inspection of the facility and found several non-compliance issues with the reporting requirements under the ministry approval. The town also failed to submit an annual performance report.

The town was fined a total of $10,000 plus victim fine surcharges totaling $2,500 and was given six months to pay the fine.
