Brampton Trucking Company Fined $7,500 For Motor Oil Spill

Cornwall - Hunter Express Ltd. was fined $7,500 for failing to forthwith prevent, eliminate and ameliorate the adverse effects caused by a spill of motor oil, and to restore the natural environment, contrary to the Environmental Protection Act.

Hunter Express Ltd. is a trucking company located in Brampton. The ministry received a call pertaining to a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 401 East in the Township of South Dundas. One of the vehicles involved in the accident was a tractor trailer transport truck, owned and operated by the company, and was carrying various types of petroleum products.

This accident resulted in the transport truck losing much of its cargo, which spilt on and adjacent to the roadway. The off-road clean-up was initiated 20 days after the accident.

The company was fined $7,500 plus a victim fine surcharge of $1,875 and was given 160 days to pay the fine.
