Company Fined $45,000 For Ontario Water Resources Act Violation
Newmarket - Pulp Moulded Products was convicted of one offence related to permitting the discharge of a material into a storm water drain leading to Sharon Creek, contrary to the Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA).
The company operates a pulp moulding business in Newmarket.
As a result of a complaint to the ministry, staff from the ministry and the Town of Newmarket responded and observed purple pulp material in Sharon Creek. The source of the discharge was traced to a floor drain inside the facility.
Following an investigation, the company was charged and pleaded guilty to one offence of discharging a material, namely pulp material into a storm water drain leading to Sharon Creek, contrary to the OWRA.
The company was fined $45,000 plus a victim fine surcharge of $11,250 and was given 12 months to pay the fine.
