Penalty Imposed - Dino Giovanatto was convicted of one violation under the Environmental Protection Act, was fined $5,000 plus a victim fine surcharge of $1,250, with one year to pay the fine.
- Dino Giovanatto is a director of an automotive business in Toronto, which provides customers with automative repairs and emissions testing. Mr. Giovanatto is the sole person at the shop accredited to conduct Drive Clean Program motor vehicle emissions testing and repairs.
- On April 18, 2017, the ministry received a referral to investigate fraudulent vehicle inspections being conducted at the automotive shop.
- As a result of the referral, the ministry conducted an audit and identified a date in which Mr. Giovanatto was indicated to have completed emissions testing. However on this date Mr. Giovanatto was determined to be absent from the repair shop. Further research indicated that the accreditation data and signature had been forged.
- The ministry's Investigations and Enforcement Branch investigated and laid charges resulting in one conviction.
