Unregistered Private Career College Shut Down

Blue Flame Academy In Violation Of Private Career Colleges Act

Ministry of Colleges and Universities

An unregistered private career college based in the Hamilton area has been shut down after violating the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005.

Blue Flame Academy cannot operate as a private career college in Ontario.  It cannot deliver vocational programs or solicit or accept applications from students.

The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities' Superintendent of Private Career Colleges ordered Blue Flame to cease operation in December 2008.  The Superintendent refused to register Blue Flame as a private career college based on its inability to meet the requirements of the act.

To operate in Ontario, private career colleges must be registered and have their programs approved by the ministry under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005.  This act ensures that the colleges meet certain standards for the programs they offer, as well as for their advertising, refund policies, and instructor qualifications.

During site inspections, ministry staff confirmed the academy was operating as an unregistered private career college offering unapproved programs at campuses in Hamilton and Grimsby, Ontario.

A complete listing of the orders issued to Blue Flame Academy is available on the ministry's Notices and Orders website.   Students can use the ministry's online search service to find registered private career colleges and approved programs in Ontario.
