Tony Dean's Biography
Tony Dean teaches at the School of Public Policy and Governance at the
University of Toronto. He advises governments on public service reform
and building capacity for policy-making and delivery.
In 2010, Dean led an expert panel review of Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act, and in 2013 completed a governance review of OMERS, one of Canada's largest pension plans.
From 2002 to 2008, Dean was Secretary of the Cabinet and Head of the Ontario Public Service.
He has written on public sector leadership and co-authored a Mowat Centre report on pathways to fiscal sustainability in Canada.
Dean started his working life as a machine tool fitter/millwright at the Dunlop Tire Company in Birmingham, UK. Following an apprenticeship, his trade qualifications were granted by the City and Guilds of London Institute.
