Province Invests in Research and Innovation Centre at Trent University

Ontario is investing in the expansion of the Bata Research and Innovation Cluster at Trent University to better equip students with the skills they need for the jobs of today and tomorrow.

Jeff Leal, MPP for Peterborough, was joined by Maryam Monsef, MP for Peterborough-Kawartha and Kim Rudd, MP for Northumberland-Peterborough South at Trent University today, to celebrate the start of construction of the new facilities.

The investment from the province and the federal government will allow Trent University to create new interactive centres dedicated to research and innovation. The project will allow for increased student entrepreneurship, business opportunities, research projects and work with Indigenous peoples and communities.

Ontario is making the largest investment in public infrastructure in the province's history -- about $160 billion over 12 years, which is supporting 110,000 jobs every year across the province, with projects such as hospitals, schools, roads, bridges and transit. Since 2015, the province has announced support for more than 475 projects that will keep people and goods moving, connect communities and improve quality of life. Investing in postsecondary infrastructure is part of our plan to create jobs, grow our economy and help people in their everyday lives.
