2016 Polanyi Prizes Winners
Dr. Stephen Newman is an Assistant Professor and Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in the Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Newman's research uses modern technology to enable environmentally safe preparation of pharmaceuticals, materials and bulk chemicals.
Dr. César Sosa-Padilla is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at McMaster University. Dr. Sosa-Padilla's research looks at the effect of creating safe European bonds and how that would affect a country's policies on debt, defaults and bank bailouts.
Dr. Daniel Wright is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Drama at the University of Toronto Mississauga and in the University of Toronto's Graduate Department of English. In his research, Dr. Wright connects Victorian political literature to the present through ideas about creativity developed by mid-twentieth-century British psychoanalytic theory.
Dr. John Antoniadis is a Dunlap Fellow at the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Toronto. Dr. Antoniadis' research project combines theory with practical observations to better understand the properties and diversity of neutron stars, which orbit other stars.
Dr. Kyle Biggar is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Biochemistry at Carleton University. Dr. Biggar's research focuses on the resistance of breast cancer to chemotherapy, specifically the oxygen supply in tumors, which plays a significant role in cancer progression, aggressiveness and resistance to chemotherapy.
