Ontario Supporting Modern Learning Facilities for Peterborough Students

Province Investing in Energy Efficient Upgrades at Fleming College

Ontario is investing in energy efficient upgrades and the modernization of Fleming College's health sciences facilities, which will better equip students with the skills they need for the jobs of today and tomorrow.

Today, Peterborough MPP Jeff Leal joined local MPs Maryam Monsef and Kim Rudd to make the announcement.

The investment from the province and the federal government will allow Fleming College to make energy efficient upgrades, such as new LED lighting, and room lighting with occupancy sensors. The projects will have a significant impact on economic activity in the Peterborough region, with a total of 250 jobs created during the construction phase.

Ontario is making the largest investment in public infrastructure in the province's history -- about $160 billion over 12 years, which is supporting 110,000 jobs every year across the province, with projects such as hospitals, schools, roads, bridges and transit. Since 2015, the province has announced support for more than 475 projects that will keep people and goods moving, connect communities and improve quality of life. • The overall cost to complete these projects is approximately $17 million, and includes $8.5 million from Canada’s Strategic Investment Fund, $1.4 million from Ontario, and $7.2 million from Fleming College.
  • Postsecondary institutions foster science and research excellence that supports a thriving, clean economy and train the highly skilled workforce of tomorrow.
  • Ontario has invested $735 million in capital funding for colleges and universities since 2013-14.
  • Research shows that every $100 million of public infrastructure investment in Ontario boosts the gross domestic product by $114 million, particularly in the construction and manufacturing sectors.
