Hate Crimes Community Working Group

The Government of Ontario seeks to recruit members to form the new Hate Crimes Community Working Group. 

The Working Group will provide advice to the Attorney General of Ontario and the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services on approaches to address hate crimes in the province, including measures to enhance services to hate crime victims and to reduce hate crime victimization directed at both individuals and communities at large. The membership of the Hate Crimes Community Working Group will represent the interests of individuals, groups and communities affected by hate propaganda and hate-motivated crimes. Hate Crimes Community Working Group members will also, to the extent possible, reflect the diversity of Ontario's communities.

Qualifications:   The Ontario government is seeking individuals who have:

  • relevant experience obtained in community, victim services, public or private sector organizations;
  • a track record of successfully working on multi-sector teams;
  • demonstrated interest and expertise in hate crime issues;
  • consensus-building skills;
  • knowledge of some or all of the following topics - hate propaganda, hate-motivated crimes, victim services issues, the criminal justice system, and community needs, priorities and perspectives on hate crimes.

The Chair for the Hate Crimes Community Working Group will be selected from the appointed members.

*Note:  Pursuant to provincial government policy, all short-listed candidates will be asked to participate in a standard police records check.

Remuneration: Expenses only.

The Chair and members of the Hate Crimes
Community Working Group will be appointed for a
term of up to six months.
