Case Management Master Appointed In Toronto
McGuinty Government Works To Improve Civil Justice For Ontarians
A new case management master, Mr. Robert Muir, has been appointed by the province to the Superior Court of Justice in Toronto, effective September 25, 2009. The case management process streamlines proceedings and focuses trial resources where they are most needed while providing parties in dispute an opportunity to discuss issues. It also allows early court intervention to promote the resolution of disputes or to bring cases to trial in a timely manner.
Mr. Muir was called to the Bar in 1990. He has been a partner at Blaney McMurtry LLP since 1996 and has been actively involved in its administration and management.
He has practiced exclusively in the area of commercial litigation, with a strong emphasis on construction-related matters, including the design and financing of projects, negotiation of contracts, litigation and dispute resolution. His practice also included insolvency matters, and acting for mortgage lenders and other financial institutions. Mr. Muir also has experience in class action proceedings.
Mr. Muir is an active member of the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations and has served in leadership positions on their sexual orientation and gender identity committees, which are dedicated to addressing the needs and concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members of the profession. He is an executive member and secretary of the Law Practice Management Section of the Ontario Bar Association. Mr. Muir is a member of the Toronto Lawyers' Association, the Advocates' Society and the Standard Practices and Ethics Committee of the Greater Toronto Electrical Contractors Association.
