New Judge Appointed To The Ontario Court Of Justice

The province has appointed a new judge to the Ontario Court of Justice. Justice Lisa Marion Cameron was assigned by Chief Justice Annemarie E. Bonkalo to preside in the Central East Region, effective February 2, 2011.

Justice Lisa Marion Cameron was called to the Bar in 1988 and practised criminal law at Duncan, Fava & Grant in Toronto. From 1988 to 1991, she appeared frequently as per diem Duty Counsel for mentally disordered offenders for Ontario Legal Aid. In 1991, Justice Cameron became an Assistant Crown Attorney in Durham Region. Since 1999, she has been the Crown attorney in Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton, leading a 10-person Crown Attorney's Office. She acted as a Crown prosecutor for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada in Nunavut in August 2008 and in June 2009. She has been a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Justice Cameron has been an active member of several justice-related community groups, including the Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton Domestic Violence Co-ordinating Committee. She has been chair of both the Kawartha Lakes Youth Justice Committee and the Haliburton Youth Justice Committee. She has also been actively involved in local mental health court-related programming.
