Ontario Appoints Interim Chair To AGCO

Ministry of the Attorney General

Ontario has appointed Eleanor Meslin as interim chair of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). The term of the appointment is for one year.

Meslin brings a wealth of experience to the post. She has held several senior-level positions with the Government of Ontario, including acting ombudsman, executive director of the Ontario Women's Directorate and assistant deputy minister in the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations. Meslin retired from the Ontario Public Service in 2000 after more than 25 years' service.

Meslin replaces former chair David Gavsie, who has accepted the position of chair of the Ontario Civilian Police Commission.

AGCO's main objectives are to ensure that liquor is sold and served responsibly, that public safety is protected, and that gaming is conducted with honesty and integrity, and in the public interest.
