New Judge Appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice
Ontario has appointed a new judge to the Ontario Court of Justice, effective July 17, 2014.
Justice Victoria Alexandra Starr has practised in the area of family law and child protection since being called to the bar in 1996. For the past seven years, she has managed her own firm, Starr Family Law, Barristers and Solicitors, practising exclusively family and child protection law. Justice Starr is certified as a collaborative family law lawyer and an accredited mediator and arbitrator.
Justice Starr has been a panel member for the Office of the Children's Lawyer, representing children in child protection cases. She has also been chair of the Family Lawyers Association and vice-chair of the Ontario Bar Association's Family Law Section. She has taught at Centennial College, and been a spokesperson for the Alliance for Sustainable Legal Aid.
Justice Starr has volunteered with the Halton Women's Centre, participated in workshops, and has been a guest speaker on a range of topics including youth and the law, conflict resolution, violence against women, and family law.
Chief Justice Annemarie E. Bonkalo has assigned Justice Starr to preside in Milton.
