New Case Management Master Appointed to Ottawa

Ministry of the Attorney General

A new case management master has been appointed to the Superior Court of Justice in Ottawa, effective October 7, 2015.

Nathalie Champagne was called to the bar in 1992. She has been employed with Legal Aid Ontario since 1997, most recently serving as Director General for the Eastern District. In that capacity, she managed many criminal and family law legal aid cases, and conducted mediations and settlement conferences in family and child protection matters. Prior to joining Legal Aid Ontario, Ms. Champagne practiced family and criminal law, and civil litigation.

Ms. Champagne has served on a number of committees, including the Family Law Bench and Bar Committee and the Board of Directors of Action Logement. She is fluent in both French and English.

Case management masters are provincially appointed judicial officers. In Ottawa, they may hear and determine certain matters in civil and family cases, including motions, pre-trials and case conferences. They may also adjudicate construction lien trials, as well as mortgage and general references, provide dispute resolution services, and serve as registrars in bankruptcy under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.
