Ministry of the Attorney General

Ontario has appointed a new judge to the Ontario Court of Justice, effective February 24, 2016.

Justice Peter Kevin Doody was called to the Ontario bar in 1982 and to the Nunavut bar in 2010. A partner with the firm Borden Ladner Gervais since 1990, Justice Doody managed a large and varied litigation practice focussed on arbitration, commercial litigation and public, administrative and insurance law. From 2012 to 2014, he served as senior commission counsel on the Elliot Lake Commission of Inquiry. Justice Doody has also given sessional lectures at the faculties of law at Queen's University and the University of Ottawa, and at Carleton University's department of Law and Legal Studies.

As a volunteer, Justice Doody chaired the board of the Great Canadian Theatre Company in Ottawa, and served as a member of its Lawyer Play Committee, which stages an annual benefit production performed by lawyers and judges.

Chief Justice Lise Maisonneuve has assigned Justice Doody to preside in Ottawa.
