New Judge Appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice

Ontario has appointed a new judge to the Ontario Court of Justice, effective March 22, 2017.

Justice Wendy Lee Harris Bentley was called to the bar in 1981. Working primarily in the area of criminal law, Justice Harris Bentley has operated her own criminal law practice since 2003, appearing in trial matters before the Ontario and Superior Courts of Justice and regularly appearing on behalf of clients with mental health disabilities at all stages of the criminal justice process.  She has represented clients in Adult and Youth Therapeutic Courts, Drug Treatment Court and Gladue Court, as well as before the Ontario Review Board.

Justice Harris Bentley is a past president of the London Criminal Lawyers' Association and organizes mentoring meetings for women of the defence bar.  She volunteers on the Quality Improvement Committee of Participation House, a non-profit, community-based organization that supports people with physical and/or developmental disabilities. 

Chief Justice Lise Maisonneuve has assigned Justice Harris Bentley to preside in London.
