New Justices of the Peace Appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice

Ontario has appointed 25 new justices of the peace to the Ontario Court of Justice, effective August 9, 2017.

Justice of the Peace MaryLou Ambrosi has been the supervisor of prosecutions for the Town of Caledon since 2015 and a solicitor with the town since 2014. Prior to that, she was a prosecutor for the City of Toronto for 11 years. Justice of the Peace Ambrosi is on the board of directors of the Ontario Safety League.

Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace Faith M. Finnestad has assigned Justice of the Peace Ambrosi to Toronto.

Justice of the Peace Sharon Kim Ashick has been an academic instructor at the Ontario Police College since 2014. Previously, she worked for the Greater Sudbury Police Service. Justice of the Peace Ashick volunteers with the Canadian Cancer Society. She was awarded the Police Exemplary Service Medal by the Governor General of Canada in 2014.

Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace Faith M. Finnestad has assigned Justice of the Peace Ashick to Sudbury.

Justice of the Peace David John Auger has been a sergeant with the Ontario Provincial Police in Chatham since 2008 and a professor at St. Clair College since 2003. Justice of the Peace Auger is a volunteer with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, McHappy Day and organizations that find homes for abused and abandoned animals.

Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace Faith M. Finnestad has assigned Justice of the Peace Auger to Chatham.

Justice of the Peace Sandra Marie Ball has been a bail supervisor for the Youth in Conflict with the Law Waterloo Region Bail Program for the past 23 years. During this time, she has also worked as a facilitator for the Partner Assault Response and Back on Track programs. Justice of the Peace Ball is the volunteer chairperson of the Argus Residence for Young People board of directors and volunteers at the drug treatment court in Kitchener.

Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace Faith M. Finnestad has assigned Justice of the Peace Ball to Walkerton.

Justice of the Peace Kevin Jack Boothroyd has worked as a member of the Refugee Protection Division of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada for the past five years. Prior to that, he worked at Canada Border Services Agency as both a hearings officer and senior immigration officer. Justice of the Peace Boothroyd volunteers with the Univox Choir.

Justice of the Peace Louis Bourgon has been the coordinating member and adjudicative program lead of the Refugee Protection Division at the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada since 2012. Prior to that, he was a member of the Landlord and Tenant Board and legal counsel for the Law Society of Upper Canada. Justice of the Peace Bourgon has volunteered with the Town of Whitby and the Law Society of Upper Canada's staff charities committee.

Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace Faith M. Finnestad has assigned Justice of the Peace Bourgon to Toronto.

Justice of the Peace Amanjit Singh Brar worked at the Office of the Ontario Ombudsman for eight years, in roles including legal counsel. Most recently, he served as acting director of investigations at the Office of the Toronto Ombudsman. Justice of the Peace Brar is a volunteer member of the Region of Peel Accessibility Advisory Committee.

Justice of the Peace Jean Angela Carter has worked as both a senior producer and reporter with the CBC, and is also an instructor of media-related courses at Toronto's Centennial College. She volunteers as a tutor for youth in Regent Park and is a volunteer speaker at the Sherbourne Health Centre LGBTQ Parenting Network. Justice of the Peace Carter has received numerous awards throughout her career in journalism.

Justice of the Peace Valerie Gail Carty has been the manager of court operations for the City of Mississauga since 2011. Previously, she worked at the Ministry of the Attorney General, most recently as a supervisor of court operations with the Ontario Court of Justice. Justice of the Peace Carty volunteers with Southfields Village Public School in Caledon and with the Synergy Performing Arts Academy in Brampton.

Justice of the Peace Sylvia H. C. Clermont has been an assistant Crown attorney in St. Catharines/Welland for the past nine years, and was the designated francophone assistant Crown for the region. Previously, she worked as in-house legal counsel with Family and Children Services of the Niagara Region and was an associate lawyer in private practice with Heelis, Williams, Little and Almas in St. Catharines. Justice of the Peace Clermont is the president of the board of directors of Au Coin Des Petits - Garderie Francophone in St. Catharines.

Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace Faith M. Finnestad has assigned Justice of the Peace Clermont to Brockville.

Justice of the Peace Douglas Peter Conley has served as superintendent of the York Regional Police since 1998. Prior to that, he was a sergeant at the Brantford Police Service for 10 years, and a constable at the Metropolitan Toronto Police for nine years. Justice of the Peace Conley is the board chair of Barrie and Area Victim Assistance and Referral Service and a committee member of the Police Foundations Program Advisory Committee at Georgian College. He received the Police Exemplary Service Award in 1999 and again in 2009 from the Governor General of Canada.

Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace Faith M. Finnestad has assigned Justice of the Peace Conley to Barrie.

Justice of the Peace Carol-Ann Cushnie has been an adjudicator and board member for the Ontario College of Pharmacists for the last year, and a paralegal at the Public Prosecution Service of Canada since 2001. Justice of the Peace Cushnie is a volunteer board member for Yensomu Rites of Passage and a youth facilitator for the African Canadian Heritage Association. In 2013, she was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Award from the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.

Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace Faith M. Finnestad has assigned Justice of the Peace Cushnie to Toronto.

Justice of the Peace Steven Mark D'Souza has been a regional clinical supervisor at the Office of the Children's Lawyer for the last 11 years and most recently was the acting provincial manager of clinical services. Previously, he held various roles, including family counselor and mental health specialist in the field of children and youth services. Justice of the Peace D'Souza volunteers as the executive co-lead of the Fairmont Park Ice Masters in Toronto.

Justice of the Peace Andrew Mark Dorrington was a founding partner at 21st Avenue Partners LP, where he worked for the past eight years. His past experience includes leading corporate strategy and business planning at three large asset management companies. Prior to that, he practiced corporate and commercial law in England and South Africa. Justice of the Peace Dorrington is a volunteer facilitator at The Gatehouse in Toronto, providing support for those impacted by childhood sexual abuse.

Justice of the Peace Michael Mark Fernandez has worked at the Ministry of the Attorney General for over 25 years in roles including court clerk, manager of court operations and most recently senior case manager and registrar with the Office of the Independent Police Review Director. Justice of the Peace Fernandez is a volunteer member for the 31 Division Community Police Liaison Committee and also volunteers with Centro Scuola at the Columbus Centre.

Justice of the Peace Anne Marie Kathleen Finn has been a senior program lawyer at the Advocates' Society since 2014. Prior to that, she was a litigation and dispute resolution lawyer at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP since 1997. Justice of the Peace Finn is a volunteer with the Merit Award Bursary Program, and has volunteered at a local public school and Lawyers Feed the Hungry.

Justice of the Peace Richard John Johnson has worked as a senior consultant for the Capital Hill Group of Toronto since 2014. Previously, he was the member of provincial parliament for Haliburton--Kawartha Lakes--Brock from 2009-2011 and has held various positions with the government. Justice of the Peace Johnson is a community representative on the Durham College Board of Governors.

Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace Faith M. Finnestad has assigned Justice of the Peace Johnson to Oshawa.

Justice of the Peace Sarah Jane Keesmaat has worked as a Gladue caseworker for Aboriginal Legal Services in Ohsweken, and as an after-hours worker with the Children's Aid Society of Haldimand and Norfolk since 2014. Previously, she worked in children's and family services for organizations including Brant Family and Children's Services. Justice of the Peace Keesmaat has volunteered with the Haldimand Soccer Association.

Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace Faith M. Finnestad has assigned Justice of the Peace Keesmaat to Simcoe.

Justice of the Peace Keon Lee has served as a cadet instructor officer for the Canadian Armed Forces since 2003, and has worked as a paralegal at Anderson Sinclair PC since 2013. Justice of the Peace Lee's community work includes over 16 years volunteering at Canadian Cadet Organizations. He has also volunteered at the Regent Park Boys and Girls Club.

Justice of the Peace Robbie Kevin Levita has been a barrister and solicitor with Price and Altman Barristers in Toronto since 1998. Previously, he was employed as a traffic court agent and a provincial prosecutor. Justice of the Peace Levita volunteers as a member of the Bench and Bar Education Committee with the York Region Law Association and is a volunteer school council member in Richmond Hill.

Justice of the Peace Paula Hy Phui Liu has been a municipal prosecutor with the City of Toronto for the past 14 years, as well as a continuing education professor at Humber College since 2007. Justice of the Peace Liu volunteers as a facilitator with Osgoode Hall Professional Development, and is on the Legal Services Diversity Committee for the City of Toronto.

Justice of the Peace Robert Gordon Munro has been a staff sergeant and watch commander for the Waterloo Regional Police Service since 2005. Prior to that, he was a detective sergeant for eight years. Justice of the Peace Munro volunteers as a compliance and harassment officer for the Twin Centre Minor Hockey Association in St. Clements. In 2005, he was awarded the Police Exemplary Service Medal by the Governor General of Canada.

Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace Faith M. Finnestad has assigned Justice of the Peace Munro to Brantford.

Justice of the Peace Jennifer Lynne Robinson has served the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for over 20 years. Most recently, Justice of the Peace Robinson held the position of corporal team leader in Toronto, and prior to that, was the acting sergeant and unit manager in Newmarket. Justice of the Peace Robinson volunteers at Meals on Wheels and the Canadian Red Cross.

Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace Faith M. Finnestad has assigned Justice of the Peace Robinson to Barrie.

Justice of the Peace Michelle Yvonne Vella-Baxter was with the Canadian Forces for 25 years, first as an aerospace engineer and recently retired as an acting deputy commanding officer. She has received various awards with the Canadian Armed Forces, including the Colonel Carl Walker Award for outstanding professionalism and ethics. Justice of the Peace Vella-Baxter volunteers as a community outreach logistics lead for the Canadian Cancer Society in Newmarket, as well as with the Aurora Scouts.

Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace Faith M. Finnestad has assigned Justice of the Peace Vella-Baxter to Barrie.

Justice of the Peace Ann Elizabeth Walker worked as a mediator at the Financial Services Commission of Ontario and Scarborough Conflict Resolution Services. For the past 16 years, she has volunteered as a community mediator with Scarborough Conflict Resolution Services at Warden Woods Community Centre. She was also the vice chair of the Federated Health Campaign in Toronto and has volunteered with the United Way.
