New Justice Appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice
The Honourable Caroline Mulroney, Attorney General for Ontario, has announced the appointment of a new justice to the Ontario Court of Justice, effective March 13, 2019.
Justice Apple Newton-Smith was called to the bar in 1999. She has practiced exclusively criminal and quasi criminal law since her call to the bar. Since 2011, Justice Newton-Smith was a partner in the firm Berkes, Newton-Smith. She served as duty counsel at the Ontario Court of Appeal, where she worked with the Pro Bono Inmate Appeal Program.
An active member of the legal education community, Justice Newton-Smith has also been an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, instructor at the Ryerson University Department of Criminology and guest lecturer at Osgoode Hall Law School.
Chief Justice Lise Maisonneuve has assigned Justice Newton-Smith to Toronto.
