Ontario helping people of Myanmar
McGuinty Government Donating $100,000 For Red Cross Relief Effort
The Ontario government is donating $100,000 to the Red Cross to help the victims of the cyclone that hit Myanmar.
High winds, heavy rain and flood water have destroyed homes and livelihoods. Hundreds of thousands of people are in urgent need of emergency shelter and basic supplies.
The Canadian Red Cross is asking for donations that will help provide survivors with emergency shelter, access to health care and clean water.
- Myanmar, also known as Burma, is located in Southeast Asia.
- The cyclone came ashore at the delta of the Irrawaddy River, the country's most heavily populated region. Rangoon, the capital, has also been hard hit.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who lost loved ones, and Ontarians want to help those who are working hard to save their fellow citizens and to rebuild communities.”
