Office of the Chief Coroner investigates death at nursing home involving lift device

Dr. Bert Lauwers, Associate Deputy Chief Coroner, today announced that an investigation has begun into the death of an individual who died as a result of an incident involving a lift device at Leisureworld Caregiving Centre - O'Connor Gate.


Initial autopsy results indicate that the incident involving the lift device contributed to the death. The lift involved, and all other similar lifts at Leisureworld, have been taken out of service pending the results of the investigation. The lift device is widely used throughout Canada and internationally.

The Office of the Chief Coroner, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and Health Canada are investigating.
