Inquest into the Deaths of Dustin King and Donna Bertrand Announced

TORONTO -- Dr. Andrew McCallum, Chief Coroner for Ontario, today announced that an inquest will be held into the deaths of Dustin King and Donna Bertrand.

Mr. King, 19, died on November 21, 2008, and Ms. Bertrand, 41, died on December 2, 2008, in Brockville.  These two individuals died in the same residence as a result of opiate drug involvement.

The inquest will explore the events surrounding Mr. King's and Ms. Bertrand's deaths and will include an examination of the issues of prescribing, diversion and monitoring of opiates as they relate to these deaths.  The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last four weeks and to hear from approximately 16 witnesses.
