Inquest into the Death of Charles McGillivary Announced

Dr. Roger Skinner, Regional Supervising Coroner for the Central Region, Toronto West Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Charles McGillivary.

Mr. McGillivary, age 45, died on Aug. 1, 2011, at the University Health Network -- Toronto Western Hospital, following his arrest by the Toronto Police Service. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act. 

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. McGillivary's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths. 

Dr. Dan Cass will preside as inquest coroner and Michael Blain will be counsel to the coroner.

The inquest will be held in the Coroners Courts at the Forensic Services and Coroner's Complex, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto.

It is expected that the inquest will commence in early 2014.

Further details regarding the date and expected duration of the inquest will be announced when the information becomes available.
