Details Announced for the Inquest into the Death of Eric Leighton

Dr. William J. Lucas, Deputy Chief Coroner for inquests, today announced details for the inquest into the death of Eric Leighton.

Mr. Leighton, age 18, died on May 26, 2011, as a result of injuries received while participating in a technical shop course at Mother Teresa High School in Ottawa. 

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Leighton's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last two weeks and to hear from 14 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014, at the Federal Courts, Thomas D'Arcy McGee Building, 90 Sparks St., 7th fFloor, Ottawa. Dr. Louise McNaughton Filion will preside as inquest coroner and Robert Wadden will be counsel to the coroner.
