Inquest into the Death of James Vecchio Announced

Dr. Michael Wilson, Regional Supervising Coroner for North Region, Thunder Bay Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of James Vecchio.

Mr. Vecchio, age 34, died on April 16, 2009, as a result of injuries received during his course of employment at a construction site in Sault Ste. Marie.  An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act. 

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Vecchio's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last two weeks and to hear from approximately 20 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2014, at the Sault Ste. Marie Court House, 426 Queen St. E. Dr. Steven Bodley will preside as inquest coroner and Daniel Mitchell will be counsel to the coroner.
