Inquest into The Death Of Randy Smith Announced

Dr. Roger Skinner, Regional Supervising Coroner for Toronto West, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Randy Smith.

Mr. Smith, age 47, died Oct. 19, 2012, while in custody at The Don Jail. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act. 

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Smith's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at the prevention of future similar deaths. 

The inquest is expected to last three days and to hear from approximately 10 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 31, 2014, at the Forensic Services and Coroner's Complex, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto. Dr. David Eden will preside as inquest coroner and Michael Callaghan will be counsel to the coroner.
