Details Announced for the Inquest Into the Death of Mladen Mesic

Dr. William J. Lucas, Deputy Chief Coroner for Inquests, today announced details for the inquest into the death of Mladen Mesic.

Mr. Mesic, 45, died on June 7, 2013, following an interaction with officers of the Hamilton Police Service while he was a voluntary patient of St. Joseph's Heathcare Hamilton.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Mesic's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths. 

The inquest is expected to last 10 days and to hear from approximately 16 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2014, at the John Sopinka Courthouse, 45 Main Street East, Hamilton. Dr. Jack Stanborough will preside as inquest coroner and Graeme Leach will be counsel to the coroner.
