Inquest Date Announced Into the Death of Kulmiye Aganeh

Ministry of the Solicitor General

Dr. William J. Lucas, Interim Deputy Chief Coroner for Inquests, today announced that a new date has been set for the inquest into the death of Kulmiye Aganeh.

Mr. Aganeh, aged 22, died on March 14, 2009, while at the provincial forensic program located at the Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Aganeh's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

There was a two-year delay due to a prior judicial decision and scheduling conflicts resulting in the loss of two jurors.

The inquest is expected to last 3 ½ weeks and to hear from approximately 35 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at the Simcoe County Council Chambers, 1110 Highway 26, Midhurst. Dr. David Evans will preside as inquest coroner and Greg Barker will be counsel to the coroner.
