Inquest into the Death of Frank Berry Announced

Dr. James Edwards, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Frank Berry.

Mr. Berry, age 48, died on Feb. 20, 2012, following an altercation with the Toronto Police Service. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.  

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Berry's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.  

The inquest is expected to last four weeks and to hear from approximately 20 witnesses.

The inquest will commence at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, 2014, at the Forensic Sciences and Coroners' Complex, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto. Dr. John Carlisle will preside as inquest coroner and Michael Blain will be counsel to the coroner
