Inquest Date into the Death of Rowan Kerry Stringer Announced

Dr. David Eden, Regional Supervising Coroner for Inquests, today announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Rowan Kerry Stringer.

Miss Stringer, aged 17, died on May 12, 2013, as a result of a head injury sustained while playing rugby.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Miss Stringer's death and will include the areas of head injury recognition in high school field sports, with a view to strategy, assessment and avoidance of serious consequences. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last 14 days and to hear from 15 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Ottawa City Hall, Keefer Room, 110 Laurier Avenue West. Dr. Louise McNaughton Filion will preside as inquest coroner and Mark Moors will be counsel to the coroner.
