Inquest into the Death of Scott Barnett Announced

Dr. Jack Stanborough, Acting Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Scott Barnett.

Mr. Barnett, aged 24, died on July 15, 1999, at the Kingston General Hospital following a transfer from the Millhaven Correctional Institution.  An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Barnett's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last one day and three witnesses will be heard from.

The inquest will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Lennox and Addington Superior Court of Justice, 41 Dundas St. West, Napanee. Dr. Gordon Watt will be the presiding coroner and Monica Heine will be counsel to the coroner.
