Inquest into the Death of Gerard Smits Postponed

Dr. David Cameron, Regional Supervising Coroner for North Region, Sudbury Office, today announced that the inquest into the death of Gerard Martin Smits, scheduled to begin on May 11, 2015 has been postponed. A new date is yet to be determined.

Mr. Smits, aged 44 years, died on Feb.15, 2013. His body was found near the side of Highway 17 in Serpent River. The previous evening, he had been travelling by bus to Elliot Lake, and his body was found near the designated location for transfer between buses.

Details of the new date of the inquest will be provided as soon as the information becomes available.
