Inquest into the Death of Brian Gray Announced

Dr. Michael Wilson, Regional Supervising Coroner for North Region, Thunder Bay Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Brian Gray.

Mr. Gray, age 39, died on May 9, 2010, while in police custody in Sioux Lookout.  An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Gray's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last five days and to hear from approximately 15 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at Best Western Sioux Lookout Inn, 2 Sturgeon River Rd., Sioux Lookout. Dr. Jack Stanborough will preside as inquest coroner and Peter Keen will be counsel to the coroner.
